Political risk in Europe translates to a considerable extent into the risk that populist parties will call and win a referendum on either EU membership or leaving the euro.
2016 was an eventful year in terms of political events, and 2017 has the potential to even exceed it. The future of the European Union might be reshaped after elections in three, maybe four, founding member states. Rising populism and backlash against globalisation in the region is evident as previous events and current polls suggest. The Netherlands will be the first in line with general elections on March 15. We give our view on the current state of affairs.
